I’ve just completed a series of portraits for each one of the characters on the Cintique tablet , just for drawing practice and, even though I know their faces as well as my own, it helped me mold their physical images in words.
And now, while I’m working through written revision and describing surroundings, I’ll draw quick sketches. In the past year, I’ve sketched some of the landscapes, but never the inside of their ships, the beach house, or anything really specific. I was working so hard at the writing, it didn’t occur to me to use the pencil to help create the details. Tunnel vision, I guess.
The last week has been so busy I’ve gotten off the track a bit. But, tonight, I start back on Lesson Eight. Lesson Ten will be the first cutting, tossing, and re-writing work. For the last three months I’ve been taking notes and analyzing the novel I have right now.
My next novel will be written with revision in mind — so I never have to do this again!
Thanks for the idea, Geo.
